whats up buttercup

I was looking at my shoe collection and came to the conclusion that i own toooo many

pairs of yellow and mustard color ones. I give myself permission to go out and diversify.

A girl needs diversity in her life don’t you think?

Thank you….i knew i could count on you to bring me to my senses.

As i was lining up my shoes…i peeked up to my bookcase that’s sits in my room and

saw this photo of my kids from way back when.

Mason was five….and Lola was probably three..almost 4.

They loved each other back then.

They actually hugged.

They might have even talked to each other that day.

I don’t know what happened…but i miss that.

They can’t even look at each other now without getting into an argument.

My nose is so much better…thank you for asking.

Or maybe you didn’t…..but i’m going to show you anyways…..

and i want to thank the reader who suggested i use tea tree oil on it..because that seemed to

do the trick….so thank you very much….

my husband thanks you also….because now i don’t have to amputate my nose.

Not that girls without noses aren’t pretty….its just that he would much rather

have a girl that has a healthy nose.I splurged on a new jacket yesterday…..

i couldn’t help it. I had only decided last minute to just pop into T.J. Maxx to see

if i could find some new hats….when low and behold….this jacket was sitting there.

I think it looks very Sherlock Holmes……

and i now need to solve a mystery….but in order to solve a mystery…

i might need some new shoes to go with the jacket.

Ahem….

and yes…those are piles of pillows sitting on that chair in the corner.

Piles tend to sit in corners of my house for weeks….

and i’m okay with it.

Really.

Have you all seen the new Anthro catalog?

I just got it yesterday…and it’s the best one so far.

I consider those catalogs works of art…..and keep them forever.

I have oodles of old catalogs…and have them stacked here on my dressing table.

I mean……

you never know if one day…bryan might decide to open one and say to me…

Kasey…go ahead….pick out anything you want.

You never know….so that is why i keep them around.

I might even go on a shopping spree today with the check i got in the mail yesterday…..

I started November with a new goal. I mean….we could all have a goal now and then…

so with mine…i decided to do my own version of the 30 day challenge.

I’ve been to the gym the last few days and hope to continue going every single day…

even though for those of you that were wondering about that 5 day boot camp crawl thing.

I decided my sleep was more important…and no need to get up and 515 in the morning…when

i can just head to the gym at 9.

So….that is my goal for this month…..and i will do my best to keep on track while i’m in

California the end of the month. It’s still warm there….and there is water in California…

so you might see me swimming…or at least sitting in a swimsuit…so that counts as exercise..

at least for me….it’s hard work getting a swim suit on.

Anyhoo….enough about exercising.

Did you know that Trader Joe’s has the best oatmeal EVER? It’s in the frozen section…

and it’s called Steel Cut oats…and there are two single servings in each box.

That is ……if you like oatmeal. I like it. I even crumbled some snickers bars on there the other day

but i do not recommend that for the rest of you.

Oatmeal has a lot of fiber also….in case any of needed that bit of information.

If you happen to have a cup of coffee in your hand….or it’s 5 O’clock somewhere for you and

you have your glass of wine in hand….

I would LOVE it if you would come visit me at a few different places today.

I’ve guest posted over at the Flea Market Style blog {here}

and

I was interviewed over at Cobblestone Rue {here}.

I might have a problem

I don’t know about you ….but i overdosed on kit kat last night and right now at this

very minute …i am laying in bed with a cold sweat and the shakes.

I’ve asked my kids to please find me a reese’s peanut butter cup to take the sting off.

I’ll let you know if it works…but as of right now…i’m not sure i will make it thru the day.

My eyelids are twitching….my palms are sweating…and my voice is scratchy.

I kept telling bryan that ….

i.do.not.have.a.sugar.problem

but apparently…i do.

hello…my name is Kasey…and i love sugar.

i love kit kats…i love reese’s…and i go nuts over snickers bars.

That is why…the day after halloween…every year….

my kids pick their FIVE favorite pieces of candy that they would like to keep…

and they throw the rest in a bag…and we donate it.

Really…it’s for their own good.

In exchange for them giving up the candy…they get to pick out a toy of their choice

at Target…and in the big toy section….not just the dollar section.

{reasonable choice}

It’s really up to them….whether they keep their candy or give it up…

but it seems to work every year.

{chances are..if they keep their candy…momma will be helping them eat it}

I feel like the price i pay for the toy saves us the price i would pay at the dentist with

cavaties or at the doctor because the kids have diarrhea from overdosing on butterfingers.

We’ve lived in our house just over three years now…and for the last three

years we have gone out candy collecting with our neighbors. Up one street..there

is this sweet lady who takes the kids photos every year and then the next Halloween she

posts them outside her door so the kids have to find them.

Only in the Midwest would you find such a sweet thing like this done.

She loves seeing the kids every year.

Of course…last year…my boys were white ninjas and lola was a witch.

This year my boys were black ninjas and lola was a witch.

This year….momma is sitting in bed…because she can’t handle her sugar….

but chances are…i’ll be the first one at Target this morning when they open the doors

because all the Halloween stuff is clearanced out.

Please pull me aside if you see me.

I beg you.

Please.

Bakeress in the kitchen

You might remember a few weeks ago when i had the pleasure of meeting my fellow

baking inspiration….Bakerella…when she was here in Chicago signing her Cake Pops book.

{see if you can spot bakeress *here*}

As it would be….and you might have noticed…that i {bakeress} have not been baking lately..

so when i was at my besties home the other night…she fed me the most delicious pumpkin bars.

{of course this was after we had our EVE to drink}

I demanded the recipe and she told me it was a Williams Sonoma one….

so yesterday i headed over there to find it.

I walked into WS and asked about what i would need for the recipe of those

must.have.pumpkin.bars

so the very nice lady told me i would need some of THEIR $10 yellow cake mix and some

of THEIR pumpkin butter which cost $9 for a jar of it.

I coughed a little bit.

I might have cleared my throat.

I also know that i am saving for some Anthro boots..so any extra money i can save..

is like gold around here.

So..i did what any good bakeress would do….

and headed over to Trader Joe’s for some yellow cake mix and some pumpkin butter.

I saved oodles of money.

I don’t know about you…but i almost hate to use the prettiest packaging ever

when it comes to baking…and T.J’s has the prettiest right now for their cakes and sugars.

I even bought the cranberry apple butter because i know that will also work in the bars

that i was going to make.

Obviously…not at the same time.

I mean the bars.

Are you lost now.

Sorry.

What i mean is….that you can substitute the cranberry apple butter for the pumpkin should you want to.

Got it.

Good.

So..anyhoo…

as i {bakeress} was in the middle of baking my pumpkin bars…

i heard a little rustling in the corner of my kitchen.

Low and behold…i found this little guy:

Fin named him squeakers.

We fed him a little cheese because obviously he was just a baby and needed some loving.

Alright…he might have been given some cheese…

but there was no loving going on.

I had to tell Fin that we must let him go outside so he can find his mommy and daddy.

And we did.

Sorry again…

i’m sure you don’t have an appetite anymore.

Don’t worry…i don’t get offended easily.

But for those of you that want to make these….

they are super easy….and the best part is..they are low fat!

Except for all the butter in them…but since you have to add butter to the recipe..then

let’s all just assume that they are still low fat. Oh..and we all know how healthy pumpkin is for us.

I will post the recipe at the bottom of the page..and you can print it out by

pressing that little button above the comments that says “print”.

Unfortunately for you….

you will also be getting a photo of a little mouse right along with your recipe.

By the way…if you are looking for really fabulous photos of baked goods..

because i realize mine have mice and what not mixed in…

you might want to take a peek at my friend Kimberly’s blog…{here}.

Her photos of baked goods are amazing as are her recipes.

honest.

She does not photograph mice in hers….but i {bakeress} do.

Pumpkin Butter Dessert Squares

1 package yellow cake mix; set aside one cup

1/2 cup butter, melted

3 large eggs

1 jar of pumpkin butter

2 tbsp milk

1 tbsp flour

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 cup butter softened

1 tsp cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350* F. Divide yellow cake mix, placing all but one cup in a mixing bowl.

Stir the melted butter and one egg into the cake mix. Press the mixture into the bottom of a greased 9×13 inch pan.

Mix the jar of pumpkin butter with two eggs and milk. Pour over the cake mix. Stir the reserved cup of cake mix with

flour, sugar, softened butter, and cinnamon. Mix together until crumbly. Sprinkle over top of the pumpkin layer.

Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown. Cool. Cut into squares.

………

OR DO AS I DID AND EAT THE WHOLE THING IN ONE SITTING.

Sorry…that part will probably be printed right along with the whole mouse thing also.

Maybe you should just write the recipe down.

Happy Baking….

love,

The Bakeress.
