Holiday market

I can hardly believe it is almost time to start shopping for the holidays..

and i for one tend to wait till the very last minute…and i have a feeling my family

is tired of getting chia pets as gifts every year……but this year will be different.

I promise mom and dad.

Pinky swear!

I for one will be buying mostly handmade this year..and one market i really

am excited to shop at this season is this one hosted by the 3 French Hens.

You might remember when i headed there this last last summer…and i was wearing

sandals and a sun dress…..

oh…and eating cobbler.

Except this time i’ll be in boots and a coat….and sipping hot cocoa.

If you live in the Chicago area and surrounding burbs…the darling town of Morris is not to far.

You can read about my little jaunt down there {here}.

I am packing up some of my girlfriends and heading down for some shopping on Saturday Nov. 20th…

so i hope to see some of you there.

I also heard…that maybe..just maybe…Santa will be there and letting us sit on his lap.

That’s just a rumor though…so don’t hold me to it if you show up and he’s not there.

If you happen to go on Friday night…which is their preview party…there will be

a dessert bar….and that part i confirmed.

If i go Friday night…i’ll be the girl in the front of the line.

For info on the event..you can check out their blog {here}.

Bakeress in the kitchen

You might remember a few weeks ago when i had the pleasure of meeting my fellow

baking inspiration….Bakerella…when she was here in Chicago signing her Cake Pops book.

{see if you can spot bakeress *here*}

As it would be….and you might have noticed…that i {bakeress} have not been baking lately..

so when i was at my besties home the other night…she fed me the most delicious pumpkin bars.

{of course this was after we had our EVE to drink}

I demanded the recipe and she told me it was a Williams Sonoma one….

so yesterday i headed over there to find it.

I walked into WS and asked about what i would need for the recipe of those

must.have.pumpkin.bars

so the very nice lady told me i would need some of THEIR $10 yellow cake mix and some

of THEIR pumpkin butter which cost $9 for a jar of it.

I coughed a little bit.

I might have cleared my throat.

I also know that i am saving for some Anthro boots..so any extra money i can save..

is like gold around here.

So..i did what any good bakeress would do….

and headed over to Trader Joe’s for some yellow cake mix and some pumpkin butter.

I saved oodles of money.

I don’t know about you…but i almost hate to use the prettiest packaging ever

when it comes to baking…and T.J’s has the prettiest right now for their cakes and sugars.

I even bought the cranberry apple butter because i know that will also work in the bars

that i was going to make.

Obviously…not at the same time.

I mean the bars.

Are you lost now.

Sorry.

What i mean is….that you can substitute the cranberry apple butter for the pumpkin should you want to.

Got it.

Good.

So..anyhoo…

as i {bakeress} was in the middle of baking my pumpkin bars…

i heard a little rustling in the corner of my kitchen.

Low and behold…i found this little guy:

Fin named him squeakers.

We fed him a little cheese because obviously he was just a baby and needed some loving.

Alright…he might have been given some cheese…

but there was no loving going on.

I had to tell Fin that we must let him go outside so he can find his mommy and daddy.

And we did.

Sorry again…

i’m sure you don’t have an appetite anymore.

Don’t worry…i don’t get offended easily.

But for those of you that want to make these….

they are super easy….and the best part is..they are low fat!

Except for all the butter in them…but since you have to add butter to the recipe..then

let’s all just assume that they are still low fat. Oh..and we all know how healthy pumpkin is for us.

I will post the recipe at the bottom of the page..and you can print it out by

pressing that little button above the comments that says “print”.

Unfortunately for you….

you will also be getting a photo of a little mouse right along with your recipe.

By the way…if you are looking for really fabulous photos of baked goods..

because i realize mine have mice and what not mixed in…

you might want to take a peek at my friend Kimberly’s blog…{here}.

Her photos of baked goods are amazing as are her recipes.

honest.

She does not photograph mice in hers….but i {bakeress} do.

Pumpkin Butter Dessert Squares

1 package yellow cake mix; set aside one cup

1/2 cup butter, melted

3 large eggs

1 jar of pumpkin butter

2 tbsp milk

1 tbsp flour

1/4 cup sugar

1/4 cup butter softened

1 tsp cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350* F. Divide yellow cake mix, placing all but one cup in a mixing bowl.

Stir the melted butter and one egg into the cake mix. Press the mixture into the bottom of a greased 9×13 inch pan.

Mix the jar of pumpkin butter with two eggs and milk. Pour over the cake mix. Stir the reserved cup of cake mix with

flour, sugar, softened butter, and cinnamon. Mix together until crumbly. Sprinkle over top of the pumpkin layer.

Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown. Cool. Cut into squares.

………

OR DO AS I DID AND EAT THE WHOLE THING IN ONE SITTING.

Sorry…that part will probably be printed right along with the whole mouse thing also.

Maybe you should just write the recipe down.

Happy Baking….

love,

The Bakeress.

talking out loud

The girls and i got together last night for a little bible study.

As you can see…we like to get together …and studying EVE is something i highly recommend.

Honest.

You will love learning about Eve…i know we did.

Let me know how you like it.

I think we all needed to have a little get together because yesterday morning i woke up to

the local tornado warning going off.

What you might not realize is….we don’t really have a basement.

We have a cellar.

Contrary to popular belief…it’s not a wine cellar…its a dark ..and damp.

So Lola and i woke the boys up and headed down to the cellar only to realize…

if we were to die…that i would rather die with my kids…and in comfort.

I know…totally selfish.

But i wanted to be up in the comfort of my white slip covered furniture and surrounded by

bowls of golden grahams with the Today show on in the background.

So we headed back upstairs…and guess what.

We lived!

Later in the day i went to costco….to develop some photos and well….

i needed some cookie dough.

You really can’t go wrong with a tub of cookie dough the size of a small suitcase.

The funny thing is…i ran into another friend who had TWO tubs in her cart.

We just looked at each other and smiled because we both know we don’t really make cookies

with that dough…..we like to eat it raw.

We like to eat raw eggs.

And now i’m fat.

The girls and i spoke last night about signing up next week for a week long boot camp

kick your butt type of thing at 530 every morning.

It’s actually called ‘Boot Camp Crawl’….but i nicknamed it…

‘crawl my butt right back into bed’.

Five mornings of just over an hour week long thing.

I’ll let you know what i decide….because i am still undecided for.

I mean…Sunday evening happens to be Halloween and we like to drink our hot toddies and

eat our snicker bars ….so let me sleep on it.

I’m sitting on my sofa right this minute…watching Oprah.

You read that right….anyone else watching the cast of Sound of Music? I happen to love.love

that movie…and we watch it every year. Sort of like a tradition.

I told bryan that we need to start going to Austria for a tradition…

and run through the hills singing that famous song.

Maybe Lola and i would wear our white dresses with blue satin sashes.

Bryan told me he will NOT be a part of that tradition.

Party pooper.

Alrighty…i think i will go eat some more of that cookie dough…it’s good for you ya know.

p.s. thank you all for your thoughtful comments on my hoe down party..

i truly appreciate it.

p.p.s. In case any of you were wondering…my dead mouse count is up to 6.

p.p.s.s. Sticky traps work the best.

p.p.p.s.s. We even got a two for one last week….two mice in one trap. If you are going to

die..you might as well die with the one you love.
