this and that and a screen saver for you

Bryan and i had lunch last week at a wonderful little farm called Common Ground….it’s in Kilauea…

and you order your lunch and sit down. I had kalua pork nachos and bryan had a fish taco’s.

It was one of the best lunches EVER….but what was even better than the lunch were these farm tables they had strewn around the patio…..

i died and went to heaven.

If it would have fit in the back of the mini {van not cooper} i probably would come back after midnight and stuff it in …and drive it right home.

But…i didn’t want to end up in the local courthouse ….so we just ate on the table instead. Next time we head there…i’m going to find out if someone local makes them.

Everything they serve comes right from their own garden…..

and it’s all organic.

Except for the pork…i didn’t see any pigs running around.
I was digging through my recipes the other day….

and came across this cider syrup that i think you would all enjoy.

It’s an autumn recipe….and goes great with homemade pancakes….

even though i didn’t make the pancakes…..{thank you pillsbury } the syrup is fabulous…and you can make it…keep it in a mason jar….stick it in the fridge for when you need it.

Cider Syrup:

1 cup brown sugar

2 tbsp cornstarch

1/2 tsp cinammon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

2 cups fresh apple cider

4 tbsp orange juice

2 tbsp unsalted butter

Mix brown sugar and cornstarch in a small saucepan….stir in spices with the cider and orange juice.

Cook over medium heat until mixture thickens and boils….about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and add the butter.

The kids had a fun raiser at school last week….a jog a thon…..

this is Mason’s good friend {and really….his only…more on that later}.

They surf together….a lot….like everyday.
most of the kids ran barefoot…

and the local fire station showed up to spray the kids down with water after the run.

I thought it would be beneficial to take some photos of the guys…

for you.

I was really only thinking of you….honest.

go ahead….

lick the screen if you want.

I did.

But then Bryan walked in on me…

and i lost all computer privileges for a week….hence the reason i’m late in posting.

{feel free to screen save the next photo….}

Lola wore her runners….

she thought it would make her faster….

and it did.

She also wore Mason’s running shorts……

i think it made her feel better.

She also got a haircut last week…..and lost the mullet she had been growing out.

The bob is a much better fit for her.

She loves it.
Fin wore his runners as well….

and is sporting his new “do”…..the buzz cut.

I figured since he can’t take the time to wash his own hair when he bathes….

{i think he’s only washed his hair twice since we’ve moved here…..}

that this would be better all the way around.

He still does not wear underwear…..

but after running 9 laps…i think he might be wearing them again.

some kids from his class….and our cute neighbor boy who happened to get ahold of some scissors the other day…

and cut his own hair.

Luckily for me…..he wasn’t out our house when it happened.

We’ve been there once…’s in the child rearing handbook….that all kids must try and cut their own hair at least once….especially the bangs.

more cute kids….and the little blondie below is named Reef….

which has me wanting another baby boy so i can name him Reef.

But Bryan got fixed the day we came home from the hospital with Fin….

so right now i’ll just keep that name in the back of my head for when we get a dog.

my new aviators…..

and my new color….

because grey is just not a good thing here.

the boys in Fin’s class…..

i mean…

da boys.

My parents are here….they got in last night….and we celebrated with NON boxed wine.

We are heading to the beach this afternoon so they can watch the kids surf….

and i promise to take some photos ….of all of us drinking fine boxed wine on the beach.

I need to initiate them into my Β fine boxed wine stuffed into a cooler club.

It’s a cool club….the fee’s are low and i’m taking on new members if you would like to join me…..

you don’t even have to shave your pits….

and back of knee dimples are totally welcome!

Tomorrow morning bryan and i are heading out for a little vacation….one night away.

We are leaving Hawaii to go to Hawaii.

Did i just say that?

Actually….we are flying to Oahu…..and we will get off the plane…hop into the rental car…

first stop….

Is it wrong that i want to go to Target and spend a couple hours wandering around while on our little vacation???

and because i’ve already looked and there is not an Anthro there…..

i figure i just saved us a lot of money.

Oh happy day!

  1. I love your blog. I love that you’re living an adventure. I hope one day I get to have an adventure too.

Since reading your blog, I find that I now want to lick things, or at least to declare I’m going/want to lick them. My oldest daughter looked at me like I had sprouted 3 extra heads when I said it out loud. What does she know? She thinks she’s a hipster… She’s 13 going on grown.

I hope you guys have a fantastic Target visit πŸ™‚

  2. I must admit I am so enjoying reading about your adventures with your family….and I feel a bit guilty for not always leaving a note after visiting{probably because what I have to say doesn’t sound NEARLY as cool as what you guys are doing πŸ˜‰ } but you have me really wishing about an adventure of our own. πŸ™‚
