these little lights of mine

It all started when i found a really cool jacket for Fin at our local consignment shop….i saw it out

of the corner of my eye….and slowly walked over to it…wrapped around a mannequin…then i

quickly eyed my competition…some other overly eager mothers looking for kids clothes.

I was lucky though…..because as stealthy as i was…it seemed no one else really had their eye

on this jacket……no…..the other moms were looking at black button downs and more formal.

NOT ME

Give me the vintage…give me the different.

I slowly grabbed the jacket…and then once again…out of the corner of my eye…

in the girls department…on another mannequin…was a corduroy blue skirt.

It was a size 8.

SCORE AGAIN

It is because of these two pieces of clothing…that i begged my family to please let me take some

photos of them.

I really do not get many photos of them…i don’t.

Not good ones anyway.

I just wanted some simple shots of my family before it freezes and we all turn into

hibernating. over eating. turn the heat up.gain weight.uggLY boot wearing.

These little lights of mine….

i’m going to let them shine…let them shine

let them shine…let them shine.

I think they shine up pretty well…if i do say so myself.

This girl is pretty blessed and thankful for such a sweet family…which brings me to

just let you know that there is no Christmas tree up here yet…

there are no Holiday decorations…

i am not playing any Holiday music as of yet.

We are relishing the Thanksgiving weekend with my entire side of the family….

there are no gifts…there are no I WANTS being had.

There will be no rushing around.

The meaning of Thanksgiving gets so overlooked..and to my family..and myself..

we are so very thankful for a healthy…happy…and loved family.

They make my light shine brighter.

Girls day

On Saturday…i grabbed my best girl and we headed down to the town of Morris for the day.

I have not had a Lola day in quite a while…and let me tell you…I am so glad

i took her with me….because she really enjoys our just together time so much…

and needs it.

We grabbed out boots…

and headed down south to The Three French Hens Holiday Market.

Lola and i first grabbed some breakfast…of course she chose a cinnamon roll and a chocolate milk…

i tell you…this girl could live on sugar…and still roll with the day.

I only had one bite of her roll.

Pinky promise.

We found our way down to Morris…and did ourselves a little Christmas shopping.

After we did a little shopping…and Lola had a cupcake for lunch…

i only had a tiny bite…

i swear…

okay…i might have licked all the frosting off the top…leaving Lola very upset.

So we bought another one.

Cupcakes make the best lunch…you should try it sometime.

Don’t call me when your jeans don’t fit anymore though.

It’s okay to have fun though…and splurge every once in a while…..so

we stepped outside and had ourselves a little date with Herb the horse.

Then we headed to the downtown part and hit all the shops.

Hands down….this was the best window display i have seen in a long time.

Loved it.

Okay…this is where the afternoon got a little sketchy.

I am warning you.

On my little mental list of things i have always wanted to see and get photos in…..

is…

are you ready…

a cute laundromat.

We were walking around…when low and behold…

a tiny cute…little place with just a handful of washing machines and dryers.

Of course…lola thought i was weird for wanting to take her photo.

She lived though.

We celebrated our win of finding a laundromat with an ice cream cone.

Mint chip for lola…and double scoop of peanut butter cookie dough for me please.

We had a great day…..we even came home with some pretty cool things..one of which

includes some 8 year old aged cheddar cheese from a cheese monger.

Aged cheddar sure tastes good…but it also gives you stinky breath.

Just sayin.

p.s. no clothes were harmed in any way while we played in the laundromat.

p.p.s and just for fun…we filled all the machines up with quarters…ready for the next customers.

p.p.s.s. Bryan thought it was odd that i even knew what a washing machine was.

the downhill battle

I realized today that….

*the reason Fin might not be doing so well in school is because he hides his glasses from his teacher

*i don’t really think he needs them…but he looks so damn cute in them

*he also complained about his head itching today…so i thought he might need a bath

*i washed his hair…because i really don’t remember the last time i did

{notice his clean and combed hair in above photo}

*i totally fail as a good mother and really…i am okay with it

*you can blame it on my not breast feeding them as babies

*i also washed the boys sheets…..because i’m sure it’s been a very long time since

*i have parent teacher conferences and i can hear jaws music in the background

*i went to the bookstore today to catch up on some new magazines

*i only lasted about 30 minutes because i couldn’t sit and relax

*i will be sitting and relaxing tonight when i head out with some friends

*i also need a new bra…haven’t gotten a new one of those in a while

*not that you really needed to know that tid bit of info

*have i mentioned that Mason is the cup stacking champion of the neighborhood

*i am the only one in this family that does not have a library card

*only because i still carry a Colorado drivers license

*i have lived in Illinois for over three years

*my goal is to get an Illinois license by the new year

*which means i must study the local law

*i will probably fail the one where it asks whether to speed up at a yellow light or slow down

*enough said

*it is REALLY cold here today…but it is okay because next week i will be in California

*have i told you i grew up in California

*i love the sunshine

*i love vacations

*travelling with children does not necessarily constitute a vacation

*my kids have never been to Southern Cali

*Bryan and i really need a date night…and we will get one this weekend

*we don’t get out as much as we would like

*i wish we could sneak away for a long weekend

*i wish i wish i wish

*stop the wishing and start the doing….

*my kids learned how to use the video camera

*one day i will put it on You Tube and show you what they like to do

*i have not ordered my Christmas cards yet

*every year i say i will get with the program and do it early

*every year i fail

*it is a downhill battle

*i would really like to get my family photographed on Sunday

*i’ll let you know how it goes

*normally i am the one behind the lens

*my next post will be for those of you that need a Texas Wedgie tutorial

*my boys are more than willing to show you

*do you know what a {shart} is

*because i am really kinda done cleaning those up after the boys do Texas wedgies to each other

*i have not found the perfect plum color yet

*okay…signing off.

*p.s. If you are local..let me know if you are planning on shopping at Three French Hens on Saturday.
