if you only knew…

your wedding reception was amazing…..

and i just want to thank you because i was not even invited to it.

………………………………

There are a few things on my long list of…..

wishing i would have done it sooner….but i’m just now getting to that list.

Have i told you that life is for living…and since we all live it differently….then there really is no reason

to judge anyone by the way they decide to live it.

Right?

Right.

So…i am just going to warn you now…that if you have any problems with reading about someone doing

something that is totally A-Wall….then you should stop now and tune back in after a few days.

Why?

Let me back up just a minute and talk for a bit while i explain a few things.

I think it is so important to have friends that you can do different things with….

take for instance….

movie night.

I know who i could call up on a tuesday night……that would hit a movie with me…..

or for instance….the pool.

I know which friends i’m going to be meeting up with at the pool for an afternoon of hanging out.

Girls weekend in the city…..i have those girls.

I’m pretty lucky to have a good group of rounded friends that if need be….

i can call up for a number of things.

So…..

what i’m getting at is…

a few nights ago…i was talking to one of my friends…

{her name is being withheld for privacy issues…}

about how on my wish list was to attend a wedding that i was NOT invited to.

You could call it “crashing” a wedding…but like my awesome husband reminded me of today…..

is that “crashing” a wedding is so 1990′s…that i needed to coin it a different phrase.

So…i give to you…my new 2011 phrase for crashing a wedding in which you were not on the invitation list….

is called….

“interrupting a wedding”

so….i have to just be honest and say…that we did not know the bride and groom…

nor did we know anyone at this wedding reception….

and all names might or might not have been changed to protect the innocent…

but good times were had.

Okay…..

so let’s go ahead and get started.

My friend and i had known about a wedding reception that was going to take place on a farm…

not far from us…and had started chatting up the fact that it would be so much fun to attend a farm reception

in which we were not invited .

we.were.not.invited.to.this.wedding.or.reception

Yes…i realize that you would probably call that something like…”wedding crashers”…but since we did not really

watch the wedding…but instead arrived mid reception ….then it’s a bit different.

and yeah…..

it was a hosted bar…but can i just mention really quick that we left the bartender a HUGE tip.

Huge.

oh…and the dress i am wearing is from Anthro but i found it thrifted when i was shopping with the friends.

Not that it matters….because i did in fact have on some spanx.

I like spanx.

I like good wine.

I like having fun.

I like to mark things off my list.

I like a good friend to experience things with.

I like farm wedding receptions.

One of us was starting to really feel like we were part of the {wish we were invited} family…..

and obviously….

i needed to catch up in the drinking game.

{ a huge thank you to the random person whom we asked to take photos of us…}

As i was walking around…i came across this little vignette in the tent of Melissa and Julian…

and i’m thinking it’s of their parents….

i think i might have cried.

I have to be honest and say that i don’t quite remember if i wrote down my feeling about the couple…

because….

if you can’t tell….

they were gorgeous!

Then everyone started making their way over to the table which held the floating lanterns….

ohhhhhh….

i love floating lanters.

is it funny that i captured the lanterns and they looked like hearts up against the sky?….

this is where i really wanted to be….near the fire pit…..

and away from the bugs…..

So friends…if you have made it this far…then i just want to remind you that it goes down hill from here.

This was the point in which neither of us had rehearsed for or that neither of us had chatted about if and when the time

should arise if someone should come up us.

I would like you to meet Uncle Dickey….

Uncle dickey came up to {friend who does not want to be named} and started chatting about

the relationship between her and the newlywed couple.

{yes….this can and will happen every once in a while….so please be prepared}….

make sure you know the facts people getting married…..

and please….mark my word for it……don’t let strangers into the photo unless you want to talk about how

you know the couple.

yup……uh huh.

Said friend got really nervous……

and might have left her drink….all the while yelling at me…..to stop taking photos…

and ran to the car.

Once i calmed her down……and promised that no one was chasing us….

we toasted Julian and Melissa….

one of the most fabulous wedding receptions we have ever been to.

{even though we were not invited…but came anyway…………….}

The End.

*updated*

All photos of the bride and groom have been taken down per request of the groom

oh happy day

I remember it as clear as a non wine drinking day.

It was Thanksgiving weekend and we were in california where we had

been visiting my family. We were in the car driving back to san diego from the desert when i turned around

from the front seat to look in the back ….only to see Lola’s head hunched over and resting in between her legs.

She said she didn’t feel good…that her head was pounding.

My first thought was she was getting car sick…which had never happened before…so we got off the freeway

and found a Target where i ran in and bought some advil.

{and a brown paper bag…because vomit and myself are not good friends}

The medicine didn’t help at all.

Nothing helped.

Her head hurt the rest of the day and the whole flight home.

The next day…i sent her to school but she came home with the same pain.

For six months….since then…she would get these on and off headaches….and would end up missing

a day of school each month because of them.

Medicine never helped….and i just assumed it was migraine related.

It wasn’t till a few weeks ago that her headaches became so bad that i knew it was her vision.

She had been tested for the last few years and we knew she would eventually need glasses…

but when i took her in a few weeks ago….

her doctor had suggested that we not put her in glasses because she has a slightly lazy left eye

and he was worried that if we put her in glasses that her eye muscles wouldn’t work so hard

anymore to keep here eye from wandering.

It’s almost like which do you choose….

to have the girl see better or to have the lazy eye more prominent?

Well…after a really hard last week of school when most kids are super excited to be out and

happy that it’s summer….little lola got another headache and was in tears because of the pain.

She didn’t want to go to school it was that bad.

Except this time she said her eyes hurt…..really hurt.

She was miserable…which in turn made me miserable.

I think i went through 2374293749872394 bottles of Advil the last six months….and i now have more

grey hair then my grandmother had.

So…last week…on bryan’s last day of work…and knowing that it was our last day of vision insurance….

i called her eye doctor and asked for a prescription to get her glasses.

It couldn’t hurt…and as for that lazy eye….well…maybe it will help her see what’s going on

in the other direction when all the other kids are just looking straight.

right?

She picked out her favorite pair….

and here we are.

My new and improved girl.

I even think it made her smarter…..so i might just call up her teacher…

{lord knows she’ll love getting a summer phone call}

and tell her that even though that last report card wasn’t the greatest…

it’s gotta be because my girl couldn’t see.

uh huh…

that’s the story and i’m sticking with it.

Oh happy day…..it’s a happy girl…

and i think she looks pretty damn cute too.

my girl and the goat

There are many…many things on my “to do” list before we head out of town in less then five weeks….

gulp…did i say less then five weeks and just over four weeks

{gulp}

and on that list was to have dinner at Heritage Prairie Farms.

HPF is a little family owned farm just north of us that on wednesdays and friday nights…they offer

artisian pizza that they bake over a  wood fire.

So since it was one of Bryans last nights at the office..and he was headed out with some

of his coworkers for dinner…i packed the kids up…and we headed over there.

It was funny to drive by this place again…

i think i even heard one of the kids stiffle back a choke as we drove by the sign…

Once we got there…the kids made themselves at home…by climbing their trees and

running all over like they had been raised by a pack of hyenas.

Obviously…i pretended that they were not my children.

Am i the only one that ever does that…..you know…after the kids run around like they own the place…

and i’m yelling…don’t go in there….

or

don’t climb that tree or you will fall and crack your head open…

that you just go and sit down and look at the people sitting all around you

and you roll your eyes and mutter under your breath….

“i wonder who’s kids those are”

That is…till the other people kinda look at you and say something like….

“really…you think their parents would do something”

and then the kids all run over to you and sit down with you.

Yeah…that’s what i’m talking about.

I knew i should have signed them up for summer camp.

Except this place was just as good as summer camp and luckily we were the only ones there that night.

They had a donkey that you could feed…and the goat was pretty cool.

See…i did get my girl and the goat after all!

The kids named the donkey…

Jack

they think it’s funny that they can’t really say….”jack ass”

and roll on the ground laughing when someone says …..Jack.

I rolled my eyes again and looked for someone who i could share the common

“who are these children” with…but there was no one.

So i had a glass of wine.

We ordered our pizzas and our drinks…which they sell wine there….so i was a happy camper.

It was so good.

It was so good in fact…that i rounded up the friends and we are doing family and friends night

there on friday. With wine…..and kids…and wine.

Oh…and wine.

Anyhoo…summer vacation is moving right along….and we’ve been busy with friends and activities.

Bryan is on day three of bartending school…which he is really loving;-)

p.s. some of you have emailed me wondering about the Il. love you forever tshirts i found at a shop

in the city….well i found them online….so you can order them  {here}.
