playing house

We had some friends over for dinner on friday evening….

funny story is….that this family lived on the same street as us back in Colorado.

They moved here one year after we did…..and i think they just couldn’t live without us…

and they nod…and say….uh huh…sure.

Roger is a Pilot…and he’s based here in Chicago…so really..they just thought it would be easier…

but i think it’s funny that we lived on the same street back then and now live within a few miles of each other.

After dinner i Β grabbed the camera and started snapping some photos when cutie patootie grabbed his

guitar out and started serenading the family.

He does not realize it yet…..

but it’s all set in stone that he will one day marry Lola.

Lola doesn’t realize it yet either….so let’s just keep it between us…ok.

{i mean….you can’t not like a girl who mix and matches her stripes and plaids}

Anyhoo…..back to the weekend…..

i have been doing a little switching around the last few days….

and the reason for that is i really just wanted a more open dining room.

That’s it. That’s all.

We don’t have an eat in kitchen….so our dining room is our everything room….

the kids do homework around the table …we eat there….it’s our everything table.

So…i moved my living room into the dining room and the dining room into the living room.

Are you confused?

I am.

I’m still trying to tweak a few things…but here is a little peek.

The most important thing in my home is keeping with the feel that i want a cozy but pretty place.

I want my kids to be able to kick back and relax….but i don’t want to lose the femininity that i really love…

and in my house….feet are allowed on the sofa.

{thank goodness for slipcovers}

Hope you all had a good weekend….have you seen ‘Lincoln Lawyer’ yet? Β It’s good…and i

especially like the talent…..uh huh;-)

More photos to come soon…i promise….but right now i have two kids that don’t feel so good and

i was really hoping to drive to Ikea and drop them off at the hour of free childcare this morning.

Comments

  2. what a fantastic idea!!

  3. I know that cute guitar player. He takes lessons from my husband. Just saying. BTW, your home looks incredible warm and lovely. I need to be inspired in that department!

Sorry to hear your babies aren’t feeling well today, Kasey…..hoping they feel MUCH better tomorrow!

You do have a VERY charming home, from the looks of the photos and I like the fact that your home is not only charming, but livable!

Spent some time in San Diego last week……went all the way from the old lighthouse monument to La Jolla, looking for “Cups”. Took a bit of time and using the GPS, but we did arrive! Hubby and daughter seemed to think I was nuts for doing so, too!

Went to the Anthro store and saw a book but didn’t get it YET…..later, though! :>)

Wishing you and yours a wonderful week!

  7. So funny that you’ve got Lola’s “future groom” chosen already…I do the same thing with my girls:) But, right now, they aren’t buying it πŸ˜‰ Love the idea of changing up your rooms; can’t wait to see the finished look!

  8. Shannon Hermann says:

  9. Be still my LOLA loving HEART!
Do you know how much I adore Miss Lola in those STRIPES and PLAID!!!!
Before G and I married he told me the ONLY thing he didn’t like was when I wore my tye~dye with
my stripes and plaids and dots.
    You know…all the mix~matched stuff!
    Ah…..haha!
    Lola is a doll!
Hope you made it to IKEA!
    xo

  11. Love your house….and esp. love the fact that you actually live in it!

  12. I just *LOVE* Lola’s sense of style! Hmm I wonder if she gets it from her fashionable mama! I think she does. πŸ™‚

I was just getting ready to do a little rearranging myself. I guess I’d better get on that since it’s closing in on noon.

Your home looks fab, as usual!

  13. That first photo is a PERFECT family photo, love it.

  14. i think you should move your bathroom into the dining room and your living room outside.
    so…
are we meeting in september in cali?
    i need to mentally prepare

  15. i really thought it would come back to me
    like my period
thought for sure it would show up
    so sorry

at least once a month for about 4 days, you are on my mind

  16. it is like blog sugar, but it is margarita inspired
I think we should start this, don’t you?

  17. Looks great! I love the pink polka dot socks with the stripes and plaid as well πŸ˜‰ awesome.
Hey I was curious: where is your slipcovered couch from? Ours from Restoration Hardware is on it’s last leg and we’re shopping around and LOVE the slipcovers w/ 3 small kiddos…thanks! Hope the kids feel better soon.

  18. Love the switcheroo! Can’t wait to see more!

  19. Your house looks amazing! I wish I could’ve seen it at bookclub! πŸ™

  20. kasey, how come you can tape things on your wall and make it look so good? you’re so frustrating!!!! πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ i’m just jealous! looks fabulous, can’t wait to see more pictures!

  21. I think it looks terrific Kasey!

  22. Love how you have “dared” to put sticky tape on the walls with those maps. Its one of those things that is drummed into you by parents not to do incase you spoil it. I think it looks great, watch out walls here i come!!

  23. Elaine L. says:

I love your style. It’s beautiful, but liveable.

    ~elaine~

  24. Just found your blog- love it!!

  25. Lindsay Jo says:

Oh my goodness, Lola is the cutest thing ever! Don’t know how old she is, but the girl has style. And if a girl has *personal* style at that age (as opposed to “i wanna look like everyone else” style), good for her and good for you. She has a good head on her shoulders and thinks for herself πŸ™‚ Yay for fun girls! … and her future husband, a total cutie patootie!

  26. Hi there,
Love your post today. How funny meeting folks who could have been neighbors and with a cute older son – meant to be I say.
There is nothing like a guitar to serenade. Love the idea of changing things around a little. It all looks lovely to me!

  27. um is the pilot the same one as the tank-wearer?

  28. lol! i use to switch rooms all the time but can’t do that with the current house we are living in. just as well, because i was totally obsessed with switching things around. can’t wait to see the rest of the pics.

  29. I love this beautiful room. I can’t believe you can get away with the white slipcovers when children are also involved! Wouldn’t it be cool if we could go back to arranged marriages?!?

    Warmly, Michelle
