monster bash

First of all…..i went through about 6 of these boxes yesterday…because i was not quite ready to let

Fin Hudson turn 6 years old.

But we did….and i even think he woke up this morning an inch taller.

Fin celebrated his big day with about 10 of his friends at the movies late yesterday afternoon….

he had picked out the movie “Rango”……

and even though the kids loved it….i had different thoughts.

If you see it…please let me know what you think about this character with the nose…….

because i’m still having nightmares.

It’s just wrong people….wrong.

after the movies…..we came home and celebrated with some of our other friends.

I stocked up on some Blue “Fin” wine….for the adults…..

and made some of these monster cupcakes for the kids.

I was a little nervous that Fin would have a fit that i made cookie monster cupcakes….

knowing that cookie monster is for younger kids….

but Fin loved them….and so did all the other kids.

I even scored some COOL MOM POINTS.

One of my friends asked me how i got the chocolate chips to stick to the white discs….

and i told her all i did was use my glue gun.

don’t worry…you don’t have to call CPS…..

all i did was use some clear frosting gel.

Even though i am a pro with the glue gun……and my glue gun skills rock the boat….

i even used it to apply all of Lola’s girl scout badges to her vest.

I threw down white craft paper down the middle of the table…and left a trail of cookies.

And yes….i like to color coordinate.

It’s a mild sickness…..but nothing a little wine won’t help cure.

  1. You just do the cutest things!

  2. On my Gawd….cutest cupcakes EVER!

  3. Fin looks so cute;-) but I don’t know about that Rango nose…hee hee.
    Seriously, those cupcakes are awesome.

  4. I took my son(12) to see Rango last night! I thought it was a little frightening- and yes, the guy with the nose
was the worst. My 5 year old would have had nightmares!

  5. you even got that 1 kid to wear the orange t-shirt to match the soda cans. you have magic powers! cute!

  6. What fun and what lovely memories! Happy birthday to your dear boy — you know secretly boys don’t really want to grow up so making these gorgeous cupcakes will only make he feel more like his mommy cares for him. —love all this

  7. I haven’t seen Rango yet…a bit hesitant because I thought the snake would scare me…but that thing with the nose…eeeew! Those cookie monster cupcakes are adorable; just like your sweet Fin! Happy, Happy Birthday to the boy who wasn’t supposed to turn six{because his momma said so} 😉

  8. You are awesome! Love the cupcakes! Will keep that in mind when I take the kids to the movie.

  9. I have the same sickness… you know what is awesome for color coordinating? Jellybeans at a bulk store. You can buy the colors all separate. For my daughter’s third birthday party there were pink and green balloons… napkins… streamers… candy… I don’t think the three year olds noticed. But I was happy with my own self.
Wine has done nothing to cure me. I haven’t given up hope yet, though. Still trying.

  10. I’m just glad you didn’t make the Rango nose cupcakes…that would be one for Cake for sure.

  11. You are such a cool Mum!
I can just imagine the boxes of tissues to see your baby turning six!!
I have an 8, 6, 4 and 2 year old and I am mourning the end of no more babies and get wistful just seeing them all grow bigger each year, so I feel for you.
Finn is such a sweet looking little boy. I hope he had a wonderful day.

  12. I love the cupcakes! Looks like a fabulous party! Six is never too young for “cookie”, he is a constant favorite for all I think! : )
    Happy Birthday to Fin!!

  13. Happy Birthday Fin! They do grow up fast, don’t they? *sniff* The cupcakes are adorable!

  14. Those are the cutest cupcakes! Happy birthday to Fin…and why do they have to grow so fast?!

  15. Elaine L. says:

Thank God the cupcakes are cute, they kinda make up for the gross, Rango penis nose.

  16. So super cute!

    : )

    Julie M.

  17. Yay, Happy Birthday Fin!

    Great cupcakes Kasey!

And… I don’t like the look of the nose guy in Rango. Never heard of Rango before actually. Don’t know if it’s out yet here. But don’t think we’re going to see it.
Saw Tangled with Max not long ago. That was cute.

  18. My baby boy turns 8 in a few weeks and I am soooo stealing your cupcake idea!! Love it. Thank you!!
and yes, I am depressed about him turning 8!!

  19. So cute! My son turned 4 this month and I went through some boxes of those as well. I’m not ready for him to get older! ugh.

  20. Kimberly says:

Love this party set up! Its cute and festive and attainable! I mean “attainable” as a compliment…as in I think, “Wow that is so freakin’ cute, and I think I could do that!” Do you like to think that someone feels like they could replicate what you did or do you prefer that they realize they could never achieve such a standard and thus hire a professional? In any case I mean that as a compliment of your kick-butt party styling skills! 🙂

  21. Love the cupcakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. Fun!! I love everything…you covered it all right down to the trail of cookies detail! Looks like you had a great turnout and I’m totally impressed with your glue gun…er…clear frosting gel skills! 🙂

  23. Once again…..good job momma! Those darn cupcakes are too much.

  24. Oh I love the cupcakes sister !! Great idea and I may just try them soon xoxo

  25. OMG I can not stop laughing at the Nose! That should not be in a kids movie! Its sooooooo wrong as you said. My beautiful six year old lost his front tooth last week, just before he pulled it out I took a photo of him as I know he won’t ever look the same when those big adult teeth come down. Happy Birthday Fin, yourcelebrations look way cool.
